Good Faith Estimate

Your right to know what care will cost before you receive it

This applies to you if you are uninsured, or if you have insurance but choose not to use it for your care here. If you are using insurance, your costs are determined by your plan's benefits instead — call us and we'll help you understand them.

The notice

The following is the standard notice published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, reproduced in full:

You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your health care will cost

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don't have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any health care items or services upon request or when scheduling such items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • If you schedule a health care item or service at least 3 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. If you schedule a health care item or service at least 10 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after scheduling. You can also ask any health care provider or facility for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you do, make sure the health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after you ask.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more for any provider or facility than your Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you can dispute the bill.

How to request one from TrueNorth

Ask us — there's no form to fill out and no fee.

You can request an estimate before scheduling anything. You do not have to be a patient, and asking for one does not commit you to booking.

What your estimate will include

A written estimate of the expected charges for the services we've discussed — typically the initial psychiatric evaluation and the follow-up visits anticipated as part of your care. It will identify the service, the expected charge, and the diagnosis and service codes where applicable.

An estimate is exactly that: an estimate. Care can change as we learn more about what you need. If your plan changes materially, ask for an updated estimate.

Keep your estimate

Save a copy. If a bill later arrives that is $400 or more above the estimate for the same provider, the estimate is what you'll need in order to dispute it.
